The Jem Loop // Virgin, UT

The Jem Trail is a super fun trail that is close to Zion National Park. It’s located in Virgin, which is the town that is right before Springdale. We usually camp in Virgin off of Kolob Terrace Road, so this ride is super close and easy to get to. You can find the parking area on this map, it’s off of Sheep Bridge Road.

This loop is about 14-15 miles and can be done in under 2 hours. It’s smooth single-track with very few technical areas so it’s great for a day after a hard ride or a good one to just spin those legs out.

Usually, we like to park at the main trail-head and ride up the dirt road. About 2.3 miles up the road on the left you will see a small dirt parking lot with a trail-head in the middle.ย This is where you will start your ride. Look at the loop on Strava below to see the entire loop. This particular time when we got to the top of the mesa we took the first left at the cowbell to ride “More Cowbell”. However, ย if you go straight when you reach the cowbell you will do a very short climb that leads to a second “More Cowbell” turn to the left and it leads to a pretty fun downhill that links you to the same spot.

Don’t forget to ring the cowbell!

The ride finishes on a downhill section of single-track that is on a mesa above the Virgin River and the views are absolutely amazing. Our favorite way to cool down after this ride is to drive back towards the main road but take the first right up to “Falls Park”. This is a sweet area where you can park and walk down to the Virgin River and jump in for a swim. Our friend found this gem once while he was watching after our dogs because his bike was broken! Amen. After that, stop by Fort Zion for some home-made prickly-pear ice cream!
